Dehradun: DGP Ashok Kumar’s three-year tenure completed. New DGP Abhinav Kumar gets command of Uttarakhand Police. Ashok Kumar handed over the police baton to the new DGP Abhinav Kumar. Ashok Kumar became emotional, said- Uttarakhand Police is now in capable hands.
Former DGP Ashok Kumar handed over charge to newly appointed DGP Abhinav Kumar at the police headquarters on Thursday. Abhinav Kumar has been posted as the 12th DGP. Ashok Kumar traditionally handed over the police baton and said that Uttarakhand Police is now in capable hands. With this, Ashok Kumar has retired from police service today.
After assuming the post, the new DGP Ashok Kumar enumerated the challenges and priorities. He said that the challenge of traffic is bigger than heinous crime. Traffic will have to be worked on war footing. Cyber crime is also a big challenge. Work will have to be done to stop drug smuggling. Referring to Ankita Bhandari of Pauri, she said that a special action plan and training is needed to stop crime against women. Training at constable and sub inspector level will have to be changed. There is a general election next year. We have to complete this peacefully.
