A Massive cleanliness drive has conducted in Tungnath by volunteers of P.G.College.
Chamoli: Fifty volunteers of Government Post Graduate College Gopeshwar, courtesy of District Youth Welfare Department, district Chamoli, have conducted a massive cleanliness drive in Tungnath Dham situated at an altitude of 13 thousand feet on Tuesday.
Flagging off this drive, Principal Prof. Kuldeep Singh Negi said that the Bugyal areas(below belt of Himalayas) situated in the high Himalayas are very sensitive, therefore plastic waste should be banned here, that used by pilgrimages and travellers.
Deepak Bisht, Co-ordinator of the adventure drive, Youth Welfare Officer Chamoli, said that this time Chopta, Tungnath, Chandrashila trek has been selected under the Swachhata Pakhwada (cleanness week) so that the pilgrims visiting there can become sensitive towards environmental protection.
Under the drive, the volunteers collected a large amount of single-use plastic scattered from Chopta to Chandrashila via Tungnath and submitted the collected waste to the Municipal Council Gopeshwar for disposal.
During the campaign, the volunteers took cleanliness pledge and appealed to the pilgrims to maintain cleanliness at the pilgrimage sites too, so that the high altitude regions could be clean and free from plastic and other garbage.
