Two foreign lady climbers rescued safely on third day of trapped on Chaukhambha peak.
Chamoli: There have been two Western lady climbers trapped on the Chaukhambha peak track in district Chamoli, Uttarakhand, both have been rescued safely on the third day.
On Saturday, the Air Force and SDRF jointly conducted a search operation. During this, they found a tent and sleeping bag in the base camp, but both the climbers could not be traced. On Sunday morning, the search operation was conducted again, in which both the climbers were found safe.
Fayjane Manners 27, a British woman and Michelle Theresa Devorok 23, an American woman had gone to climb at the 6995 meter high Chaukhambha mountain from Badrinath. On October 3, they contacted their embassy through pager and told that they were stuck before reaching the peak of Chaukhambha. Their luggage had fallen into the ravine.
As soon the information reached to district Chamoli administration After this, two helicopters of the Air Force conducted a search operation on Friday. But they could not be traced. After that on Saturday, SDRF and Air Force conducted a continuous search operation in the area since morning. But both the climbers could not be traced.
The SDRF team which went out in search of foreign climbers had reached a height of about 4500 meters on the mountain. This is the advance base camp. According to the information received from SDRF, the place from where the foreign women contacted is about 6200 meters. The team was constantly in touch through satellite. In the morning, the climbers were found at a higher height than this.
