World Senior Citizen Abuse Awareness Day observed.

Tehari Garhwal: On Monday, world senior citizen abuse awareness day has observed, as per the instructions of State Legal Services Authority High Court Complex Nainital, Uttarakhand, was organized by District Legal Services Authority Tehri Garhwal.

The awareness day was organised under the chairmanship of Alok Ram Tripathi, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Tehri Garhwal, in remote village Koti Fagul Nyay Panchayat Patagli, Block Bhilangana Tehsil Ghansali Tehri Garhwal.

Alok Tripathi, the Secretary of the Authority, in the camp told that the World Senior Citizen Abuse Awareness Day, is celebrated every year on 15 June. In purpose of to support the United Nations International Action Plan, which recognizes abuse of the elderly as a public health and human rights issue. And it is a beacon of action for individuals, communities and organizations to raise awareness about abuse, neglect and exploitation of the elderly.

Elder people abuse can be “a single or repeated incident, or lack of appropriate action, occurring in any relationship where there is an expectation of trust, causing injury or distress to an elderly person.” This global social issue affects the health and human rights of the elderly, which requires global attention. He gave information about the Senior Citizens and Parents Maintenance Act along with the public welfare schemes run by NALSA and SALSA for senior citizens. Rajpal Singh Mian, Retainer Advocate, District Legal Services Authority, Tehri Garhwal, informed the villagers in detail about the free legal aid on NALSA helpline number 15100 and the functioning of the District Legal Services Authority.
