District Magistrate expressed displeasure over the negligence of the municipal bodies.

Chamoli: District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari, chaired a review meeting on Tuesday, the status of Solid Waste Management and Sanitary Landfill Site (SLF) and Material Recovery Facility (MRF) was reviewed in all the municipal bodies of district Chamoli.

This review was done under the meeting of the District Ganga Rejuvenation Committee, in which special emphasis was laid on taking concrete steps to stop the flow of garbage and waste water in the rivers and reviewed the availability, functionality, garbage collection, separation and final disposal of land located in the SLF site and MRF site in the municipal bodies. During the meeting, he expressed deep displeasure over the Executive Officer of Gopeshwar Municipal Body not presenting the necessary information related to SLF and waste management, considering it as gross negligence, he directed to send recommendations to Secretary Urban Development to take action against the concerned officer.

The Executive Officer ordered to submit the proposal of work being done for solid waste management from Karnprayag in triplicat. He said that if the proposal is not submitted in time, strict action will be taken. He directed the Executive Officer of Gairsain to show the DPR of 1 crore 90 lakhs and ordered the Deputy Collector to inspect the MRF center of Gairsain and check the progress of the work. He said that in case the municipal bodies did not use the allocated revenue land for SLF and MRF centers for the prescribed purpose, the concerned sub-district magistrates were immediately investigated and ordered to take back the land.

District Magistrate, Tiwari has also directed all the executive officers that scientific disposal of solid and wet waste should be ensured compulsorily in the city areas. He clarified that the accountability of the bodies for the cleanliness of the rivers would be fixed and directed to all the bodies to ensure regular inspection and necessary corrective action for the protection of river Ganga, cleanliness and environmental balance of cities. He warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against the concerned officers in case of negligence or indifference in future.
