A youth was duped by posing as a “soldier”, but the quickly arrested by Karnaprayag police.


Chamoli: An accused who stole a mobile phones and cash of a youth and locking him in a room at block Karnaprayag district Chamoli, was arrested by the police within just 24 hours and the stolen goods also recovered from him.

Shubham Negi, on 19 August, a resident of village Koli, gave a complaint in Kotwali(police station) Karnaprayag that when he was returning from Kedarnath after his job. On the way, he met a young man, who told his name as “Anshul” and introduced himself as a soldier. Both came together to Karnaprayag and spent the night in a Lodge.

Shubham bought a new mobile phone (Realme 14 Pro Plus, price ₹32,000). Next early morning, the alleged “Anshul Fauji (soldier)” stole Shubham’s new phone and ₹10,000 cash and ran away by locking the room from outside.

A special police team was formed under the direction of Inspector-in-Charge Rakesh Chandra Bhatt. The police team searched about 20-25 CCTV cameras installed at Karnaprayag market, obtained the photo of the suspect and maintained constant contact with the shopkeepers. During this time, information was received from the mobile seller that a young man was trying to sell a new stolen mobile.

The police team, activated on the information, laid siege and caught the accused near Gholthir Shivanandi on 20 August 2025. And the police recovered from the accused 01 mobile phone Realme 14 Pro Plus (worth ₹32,000) and ₹9,500 cash

The arrested accused has been identified as Himanshu Negi alias Anshul, resident of village Bandwara, police station Gopeshwar, age 22 years. This cunning thief has already gone to jail in many serious cases too.
