Sports competitions would be organized on the occasion of National Sports Day.

Chamoli: On 29 August, every year observed as National Sports Day, on the occasion of birth anniversary of Hockey Magician Late Major Gyanchand Ji. On this occasion, various sports competitions will be organized in Sports Stadium Gopeshwar. The teams of Government/Government/Semi-Government schools of the district have been invited by the District Sports Department to participate. Hockey Under 17 Boys category will be organized here on 27th and 28th August.

In this sequence, Football Under 17 Boys category would be organized on 27th and 28th August from 3 pm. And cross country race in the category of boys and girls will be organized on 29th August at 9.30 am, started from Sports Stadium Gopeshwar via Ghigharan Motor Road to Sports Stadium. The distance fixed for boys under 12 years is 2 km, and for under 14 years is 3 km, for under 17 years is 5 km and for open category is 7 km. Apart from this, the distance has fixed for girls under 12 years is 2 km, for under 17 years is 3 km and for girls open category is 5 km.

Incharge District Sports Officer Mohit Singh said that the winners and runners-up in the sports competitions will be honoured by giving prizes. He informed that the teams participating in hockey and football competitions will have to compulsorily register themselves from the District Sports Officer’s office by 4:30 pm on 26 August. And to participate in the cross country race, one will have to reach the sports stadium by 8:30 am on 29 August.
