World Sight Day observed with eye health awareness program.

Chamoli: World Sight Day, observed every year on the second Thursday of the month of October, was celebrated this year at the Government Ashram Vidyalaya, Saikot. During the awareness program organized on this occasion, District Health Information, Education and Communication Officer, Uday Singh Rawat, provided information on eye health to the students.

He explained, that the vision impairment causes a person to see objects, both near and far, blurred. Symptoms can include headaches, watery eyes, or a lack of clarity on the blackboard while working at close range. He added that vision impairment can be corrected by wearing glasses with the appropriate prescription.

Mr. Rawat has further explained that vitamin A is an essential nutrient for the eyes. Its deficiency can weaken children’s vision and lead to night blindness. He advised consuming foods rich in vitamin A, such as carrots, papaya, milk, guava, eggs, and green leafy vegetables.

He also advised that in case of any eye injury or vision problem, one should immediately contact the nearest eye doctor or primary health center. He also emphasized the importance of limiting mobile phone use and regular eye checkups for eye health.
