High mountain Blanketed including Badrinath: Two Feet of Snow as Arctic Blast Grips Uttarakhand

Chamoli: The serene Himalayan peaks of Uttarakhand have been transformed into a formidable winter landscape this week as a relentless weather system brought heavy snowfall and plunging temperatures to the region.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has upgraded its warning to an Orange Alert for several mountainous districts of the state. Residents and travelers in the following areas have been advised to exercise extreme caution:
Forecasters are predicting further heavy snow and torrential rain across these districts throughout Friday. The disruption is expected to be compounded by high-velocity winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 km/h.
The volatile weather is not confined to the altitudes. The plains are expected to endure heavy spells of rain and thunderstorms. While the “Yellow Alert” districts may see less severe conditions, the IMD warns that lightning and sudden squalls remain a significant risk.
The weather pattern across the state is expected to remain volatile and unstable until at least March 25,” a spokesperson for the Meteorological Centre stated.
Authorities are closely monitoring road connectivity, particularly the national highways leading to the shrines, which are frequently blocked by such heavy drifts. For those in the region, the message is clear: the winter is far from over.
