Special vaccination campaign to prevent tetanus and diphtheria is being run in schools till 30th November.
Chamoli: In the district Chamoli, a special vaccination campaign is being run in schools by the Health Department Chamoli for the prevention and protection of diphtheria and tetanus. Under this, DPT vaccine is being given to 5 year old school going children and TD vaccine is being given to 10 year and 16 year old children.
This special vaccination campaign will run in the entire district from 11 to 30 November 2024. During this time, children will be vaccinated in all government and private sector schools and Anganwadi centers of the district.
The District Immunization Officer says that to prevent tetanus and diphtheria, children should be compulsorily vaccinated at the age of 10 years and 16 years. According to the schedule of the regular vaccination program of the Government of India, to protect the children who have completed 5 years, 10 years and 16 years registered in all the government and private schools and Anganwadi centers of the district from serious diseases like diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus, the vaccination campaign of DPT for children of 5 years, TD for adolescents of 10 years and 16 years is being run by the Health Department in schools through vaccination sessions from 11 to 30 November 2024. Parents whose children have not yet received the said vaccine can quickly contact their nearest health center or their school.
State SMO of World Health Organization Dr. Vikas Sharma, UNDP Program Officer Yogesh Rawat and the team of Health Department took stock of the status of vaccination in various schools of the district. Also, information was taken about the campaign going on in the district and appeal was made to the parents and teachers to provide their cooperation in getting the children of the prescribed age who are deprived of vaccination, vaccinated against tetanus and diphtheria in their schools or nearest government hospitals.
Dr Abhishek Gupta, Chief Medical Officer, Chamoli, informed that at present, in 337 schools of the district, 232 children have been vaccinated for DPT 5 years, 1772 children for TD 10 years and 1704 children for TD 16 years.
