Three pilgrims dead and five injured due to debris fell from the hill on the walking route.
Rudrapray/Kedarnath: On the Gaurikund-Kedarnath walking route, a major accident took place on Sunday morning. A huge amount of debris and boulders suddenly fell down from the hill near Chirbasa.
District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar told that three pilgrims going on the route died, while five other were injured. Among the injured, two pilgrims are said to be from Maharashtra and others are local. The injured have been sent to Gaurikund Hospital for treatment.
According to the information, the incident have taken place at 7.30 morning. Getting the information about the accident, the police administration team reached at the spot soon. Relief and rescue operations are underway, till text the news. The deceased in the accident have been identified as Kishore Arun Parate 31, Nagpur Maharashtra, Sunil Mahadev Kale 24, Jalna Maharashtra and Anurag Bisht (age not mentioned), Tilwara Rudraprayag.
There is a danger of landslide every moment on the 16 km long Gaurikund-Kedarnath walking route in Kedarnath. Cheerbasa is a landslide zone, where accidents occur due to falling of stones from the hill every rainy season. Last year also, a person lost his life due to landslide from the hill.
Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami has also expressed grief over the accident on the Kedarnath route. He posted on social media and wrote, ‘The news of some passengers being injured due to falling of debris and heavy stones from the hill is very sad. Relief and rescue work is going on at the spot, I am constantly in touch with the officials in this regard.
