In civic bodies, for the post of president two nominees and four nominations for member posts cancelled.

Chamoli: Scrutiny of nomination papers filed by candidates for contesting for the posts of president and councillor in civic elections in Chamoli has been completed. In the district, a total of 51 candidates had filed their nominations, for 10 president posts of Nagar Palika and Nagar Panchayat and 157 candidates for 64 councillor posts. In scrutiny, 02 nomination papers filed for the post of president and 04 nomination papers for member were cancelled.

In Nagar Palika Parishad Karnaprayag and Nagar Panchayat Nandprayag, one application each for the post of president was cancelled. Whereas in Nagar Palika Parishad Joshimath, Nagar Panchayat Gairsain, Nagar Panchayat Pipalkothi and Nagar Panchayat Nandanagar, nomination papers of one member each were cancelled in scrutiny. After the completion of the scrutiny of nomination papers, the nomination of only one member in Ward-2 of Nagar Panchayat Nandanagar was found to be valid.

After the completion of the scrutiny of nomination papers for the municipal elections, now the name can be withdrawn till 02 January. After this, symbols will be allotted to the candidates on 03 January. Voting for the civic elections will be held on 23 January and counting of votes will be done on 25 January.

A total of 54177 voters are registered in all the 10 civic areas of district Chamoli, including 26111 women, 28063 men and 03 other voters. The highest number of 13162 voters are registered in Nagar Palika Parishad Gopeshwar. This includes 6491 women, 6668 men and 03 other voters. While the lowest number of 1395 voters is registered in Nagar Panchayat Nandanagar. This includes 653 women and 742 male voters. A total of 80 polling stations have been set up in all the civic areas of the district for the civic elections. In this, 26 polling booths have been categorized as sensitive and 07 polling booths as very sensitive. The district administration is busy in proper preparations for the civic body elections.
