Kargil victory day has observed enthusiastically at district headquarters.
Chamoli: The festival of valor and valors “Kargil Vijay Diwas” ( Kargil victory day 26July 1999) was celebrated Friday with great enthusiasm in the district Chamoli headquarter Gopeshwar.
As a chief guest Vimala Devi, wife of martyr Nayak Kripal Singh, District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana, District Sainik Welfare Officer Colonel (Retd.) Subodh Shukla, and other officials, public representatives and dignitaries have paid homage by garlanding over the pictures of Kargil martyrs.
Police and NCC jawans saluted the martyrs. Various programs including plantation of trees were also organized on Shaurya Diwas at the block levels of district too. During the Kargil war fought with neighbour country Pakistan in 1999, in which 527 brave soldiers of the country made the supreme sacrifice in the Kargil war, which included 75 soldiers from Uttarakhand state and 11 from Chamoli district.
District Magistrate, Himanshu Khurana, has honoured the family mambers of Kargil martyrs and while saluting the immortal martyrs of the country, said that the supreme sacrifice of the brave soldiers for protecting the borders of the country in the Kargil war will always be remembered. He asked everyone to take inspiration from the indomitable courage and valorous tales of the soldiers.
District Sainik Welfare Officer Colonel (Retd.) Subodh Shukla threw light on the heroic tales and biographies of the Kargil martyrs in their honour. He said that on 26 July 1999, Indian soldiers displayed their indomitable courage and chased away the intruders and soldiers of the Pakistani army in the inaccessible region of Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir. In this Operation Vijay, 11 soldiers of Chamoli district made the supreme sacrifice.
