The election of municipality bodies will be held in May.
Dehradun: Elections for Municipal Corporation, Municipality and Nagar Panchayats in the state will be held in May. The government machinery has intensified preparations. On one hand, the government is studying the OBC reservation report, on the other hand, the State Election Commission has also completed the work of voter list updation. However, no date has been decided yet.
After the end of the tenure of the bodies, administrators are posted in them from December 2 to the next six months i.e. June 2. The responsibilities of the municipal bodies are also being seen from the level of District Magistrates. Officers up to ADM level are in the role of administrators in small bodies. Meanwhile, preparations for the new civic elections have also been intensified.
Internally, a target has been set to hold civic elections in the month of May. The government is studying the report on OBC reservation recently submitted to the Chief Minister by a single-member dedicated commission. After the study, the Urban Development Department will prepare the reservation roster from the District Magistrates of all the districts. Accordingly, OBC reservation is to be given in civic bodies.
The State Election Commission is completing its preparations rapidly. Commission Chairman Chandrashekhar Bhatt said, preliminary preparations are being done now. He said, as soon as the government announces the schedule, civic elections will be conducted accordingly.
