Three-day Immortal Martyr Soldier Fair starts in the military dominated village Savad.
Chamoli: The three-day 17th Amar Shaheed Sainik Mela, (Immortal Martyr Soldier Fair) has organized in the memory and honor of martyred soldiers in the remote soldier dominated village Savad of block Deval located in the border district Chamoli of Uttarakhand state, started on Saturday.
Garhwal MP (the member of parliament) Anil Baluni, inaugurating the fair, greeted the people of the area, and paid tribute to the immortal martyrs of Veer Bhoomi (land of brave) by offering wreaths and tributes at the martyr memorial in village Savad. During this, the Garhwal MP also announced to give 10 lakhs for the Sainik Museum in village Savad. He said that soon the proposal for Kendriya Vidyalaya (central school) in Savad will be approved.
In the first world war, 22 soldiers from the military dominated village Savad participated, and 38 soldiers fought in the Second World War, 14 soldiers fought in the Peshawar incident and 17 soldiers are freedom fighters. From the village Savad, 28 soldiers took part in the 1971 Bangladesh war and 15 soldiers in Operation Blue Star. Currently, 128 soldiers from Veer Bhoomi Savad are serving in the Indian Army.
Addressing the public at the Shaheed Sainik Mela, Garhwal M.P Anil Baluni said that the government is constantly trying to improve facilities in the border areas. Paying tribute to the immortal martyrs, the MP said that our government has always respected the soldiers. The state government is also giving government service opportunity to one person from the martyr soldier family. The MP also unveiled a memorial built at a cost of 14 lakhs in the memory of 18 freedom fighters, and said that I feel proud to come to a military dominated Village.
