“Niti Extreme Ultra Run 2026: High‑Altitude Endurance Meets Borderland Unity”

Chamoli: In the high Himalayas of northern India, the remote Niti Valley has just staged one of the country’s most daring adventure tourism events — the Niti Extreme Ultra Run 2026.
From May 31 to June 2, hundreds of runners from across India braved thin air, rocky climbs, and unpredictable mountain weather to compete in ultra runs, marathons, half marathons, shorter races, and even a mountain biking challenge. Distances ranged from 5 kilometres to a gruelling 75-kilometre ultra run.
The event was spearheaded by Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and jointly organised by the Uttarakhand Tourism Department and the Indian Army. More than a test of endurance, it became a showcase of civil-military coordination in one of India’s most strategically sensitive border regions.
The Army played a pivotal role setting up tents, food supplies, medical stations, route security, and emergency support. Their discipline, combined with the administration’s planning, ensured the event ran smoothly despite the valley’s limited resources and harsh terrain.
Officials say the success of the Niti Extreme Ultra Run marks a new chapter in Uttarakhand’s adventure tourism, blending sport, local participation, and national security in a single, high-altitude spectacle.
