Ragistration would be mandatory for live in relationship, after UCC bill passed in the state.
Dehradun: It will be mandatory to register live-in relationships on the web portal in the state, after the implementation of Uniform Civil Code. For not registering, the couple can face imprisonment of six months or a fine of Rs 25,000 or both. On the basis of the receipt that the couple will receive as registration, they will be able to get a house, hostel or PG on rent. According to sources, this provision has been made in the UCC draft recently submitted to the Dhami government.
Live-in relationship is clearly defined in the UCC. According to this, only an adult man and an adult woman will be able to live in a live-in relationship. They should not be already married or in a live-in relationship with anyone else or in prohibited degrees of relationship. Every person living in a live-in relationship will have to do mandatory registration on a registered web portal for living in a live-in relationship.
After registration, the registrar will give them a receipt of registration. On the basis of that receipt, the couple will be able to take a house or hostel or PG on rent. The registrar will have to inform the parents or guardian of the couple registering. Children born during live-in will be considered the legitimate children of that couple and that child will get all the rights of a biological child. It will also be mandatory for every person living in a live-in relationship to register for separation.
